Distribution Network Operator (DNO)

The companies that own and operate regional electricity distribution networks in the UK. Examples: UK Power Networks, Western Power Distribution, Scottish Power. Developers apply to them for grid connections. As a landowner, you may see ‘G99 applications’ mentioned. These are the technical applications to connect generation projects. National Grid ESO (Electricity System Operator) The UK-wide body responsible for balancing supply and demand on the national transmission network in real time. They contract with renewable generators (including battery storage) to provide balancing services like frequency response and reserve power.
